What Can You Buy for $400,000?

With the average price of a detached home in Toronto sitting at about $950,000, it’s interesting to see what detached homes are going for in other cities.
According to AOL, the average price for a detached home across the US is $177,000, so they took a look to see what $400,000 would buy from New Orleans to Chicago. It’s eye-opening. The home pictured above is in Kansas City (MO), and measures 3,849 square feet with five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a circular staircase. Not bad for $394K. You can also get a mansion in Boise for that price.
There are detached homes available in Toronto for under $400K, but you may have to compromise on location (St. Clair and Old Weston Road) or deal with renovations (‘This house has not been lived in for three years).
Of course, if you’re willing to live in Brampton, there are actually some beautiful looking older homes there.
