Toronto Construction: What’s happening along Gerrard Street?
July 4, 2014
Everyone these days seems to blame Toronto condo development for traffic slowdowns in our city. From Liberty Village to Regent Park, it seems like half the city is under construction, but there are two big (non condo) projects that are more disruptive than others. The first is the addition to Union Station (a few weeks after it’s finished, we’ll forget the whole area from in and around the station was ever under construction, right?)
The second big project is happening along Gerrard from Spadina to River Street. Anyone who travels this road on a regular basis must feel like construction has been dragging on forever. And that’s not far from true – construction started in January of 2012. But what are they doing? Replacing some watermains to ensure ‘the safety and reliability of the water supply’, which is something important.
The good news is that all tunnelling has been completed and we’re less than a year away (according to the schedule).
