The Star donates more than one million archive photos to Toronto Public Library
July 7, 2014
Most of us have a shoebox full of photos that we keep meaning to organize (or a folder on our computer full of digital images) and the Toronto Star is no different – but the Star has donated its entire archive of photos – some one million – to the Toronto Public Library.
The photos span an entire century and judging from the 22 sample shots available online, the collection could be spectacular, although there aren’t many from pre-1950 here.
The question is – who has the unenviable job of digitizing and organizing them?
The photos should be available for viewing as of July 7 at the Marilyn & Charles Baillie Special Collections Centre at the Toronto Reference Library and the Star reports that some of the photos will be available on the library’s digital archive at some point in the near future.
