Contact Photography Festival: May 1-May 31
May 7, 2014
The Contact Photography Festival is one of my favourite Toronto festivals. It takes place across the city during the entire month of May. You can find the photography on billboards, at subway stations, the airport and the reference library, among other locations.
This year’s theme is ‘the relationship between identity and photography by focusing on images that explore individual and collective attributes.’
Pop culture fans will want to check out Stoking the Star Maker Machinery: Behind the Popular Song at the Art Square Gallery at 334 Dundas West – ‘Stoking will cover all musical eras from Jazz, Beatles, Monkees, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Punk to current bands making the tour across the country’.
The range of topics and styles of photography is just astounding. Anyone can snap a selfie with their phone, but these truly are art.
