5 key things to consider when buying a resale home

In my last blog entry, I highlighted Mark Weisleder’s recent column about what you need to ask when buying a new build – now here are some questions you should be asking when you’re buying a resale house. All are good tips but I would switch them up a bit. I’d put #5 at the top… Knowing how much home you can afford (consider all carrying costs – mortgage, taxes, utilities, maintenance) before you start looking is key to a success full experience when searching for a home. It sets realistic expectations and saves you a lot of time in the end. I’d also put #4 in second spot because having everything in writing makes sure that on closing date, there are no disappointments. Also, #3 maybe somewhat unrealistic in Toronto’s housing market because of everyone’s work schedules – you’re unlikely to have a chance to speak to the neighbours but if you can it’s always a good idea. A good agent (hint hint) will know the particulars of a neighbourhood and even streets within those neighbourhoods.
